    as the 5039th Motor Vehicle Squadron under
    the 5039th Air Base Wing at Elmendorf
    Air Force Base, Alaska
    The squadron was redesignated as the
    5039th Transportation Squadron
    (actual date is unknown, but likely in
    1954 or 1955); it was redesignated as
    the 5040th Transportation Squadron
    on 1 October 1957 under the
    5040th Air Base Wing and was
    inactivated 8 July 1966
    This patch was made in 1959
