    This squadron was activated 1 January 1979
    under the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at
    Hill Air Force Base, Utah
    It was inactivated on 1 April 1983 when
    it was redesignated as the 16th Tactical
    Fighter Squadron
    The squadron flew F-16 Falcon aircraft
    The emblem design was approved by the
    Heraldry Office on 16 November 1961 when
    it was known as the 16th Fighter-Interceptor
    Squadron flying F-102 aircraft and was
    based at Naha Air Base, Okinawa under the
    51st Fighter-Interceptor Wing
    This rare patch was made in 1980
